What does Main Street do with a Veterans Day parade that used to be done by lunch? On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the City of Vine Grove's calendar lists this year's event as the Veterans Day Parade & Car Show. It runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Downtown Vine Grove, 300 West Main Street, and Vine Grove City Hall is the organizer. Last year's version had a different name and a much shorter day. The added hours change the whole Saturday for anyone who lives within walking or short-driving distance of West Main.
The Name Changed and So Did the Clock
The City added the 2026 listing to its calendar on July 20, 2026. Put next to the two years before it, the change is easy to see.
| Year | Event name on the City calendar | Listed program |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony | Listed 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the parade downtown at 10 a.m. and the ceremony at 11 a.m. in Optimist Park |
| 2025 | Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony | 10 a.m. to noon, parade along West Main Street and ceremony at Optimist Park |
| 2026 | Veterans Day Parade & Car Show | 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Downtown Vine Grove, 300 West Main Street |
The 2025 listing on the City's calendar covered two hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The 2026 listing covers seven. "Car Show" now appears in the title where "Ceremony" used to be. The listing gives the hours, the address and the organizer and doesn't describe the rest of the program. If you've gone to the Optimist Park ceremony in past years, check with City Hall about this year's plans before you head over.
The parade still steps off at 10 o'clock, as it did in 2024 and 2025. The 2024 listing blocked out 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the only things on its program were the 10 a.m. parade and the 11 a.m. ceremony. In 2026, the afternoon has an event of its own.
What the Morning Has Always Been
The parade is the anchor, and it goes back further than the car show. A preview in The News-Enterprise, written by Kodee Brinegar ahead of an earlier year's parade, opened with "A city near the gates of Fort Knox honors the community's military servicemen and women tomorrow." In that article, City Clerk and Treasurer Jessica Irwin explained where the event sits in the season:
"It's the 26th annual parade this year. This is our way of honoring veterans and cheer them on. It's sort of a kickoff to the Veterans Day celebrations."
That News-Enterprise preview also lays out how the parade traditionally ran. It started at the Vine Grove Fire Department, went along Highland Avenue through the main part of town, and ended at Vine Grove Optimist Park. It lasted about 30 minutes, and flags and candy were handed out along the way. North Hardin High School JROTC marched that year. The grand marshal was Lt. Col. Yosiah Hodge, a finance officer with Army Reserve Aviation Command, who also spoke at the ceremony.
Afterward, the city served a light lunch with hot chocolate and coffee at the Masonic Lodge, 857 Crume Road. The local Lions Club brought ice cream. Irwin said she hoped to see "the streets lined with participants and veterans of all branches of the military," and described the day as "all these veterans, organizations and clubs that come together to cheer them on and honor these veterans."
All of this comes from an earlier year. The 2026 route, grand marshal and lunch plans haven't been announced on the City's event page. Still, it shows what the 2026 version is adding to. For years the format was a 30-minute parade, a ceremony in the park and lunch on Crume Road. Everything fit in a morning because it was built to.
The Car Show Holds Main Street After the Parade
The new part of the day is the afternoon, and the car show is what fills it. With the listing running until 5:00 p.m. at 300 West Main Street, downtown stays busy for about six and a half hours after the last parade unit has gone by.
A second event is planned for the same address. AllEvents lists a Veterans Day Vendor Market at Vine Grove City Hall, 300 W. Main St., on Saturday, November 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with Southern Stars Boutique as the organizer. Since that's an aggregator listing, confirm the details with the organizer before you plan around it.
If both listings hold, City Hall's block will have a parade in the morning, vendors until 4:00 p.m. and show cars until 5:00 p.m. One short procession has turned into something closer to an open house on West Main, and the people who can stop by at 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. now have a reason to.
The City's event page shows a flyer titled "Veterans Day Car Show." If you're bringing a car instead of coming to look at them, check that page before you load up the trailer.
Planning Saturday, November 7
Here's how the day breaks down by hour, using what's listed now:
- Before 10:00 a.m. Find your spot along West Main. In past years the parade lasted about 30 minutes, so people who show up at 10:15 may miss a good share of it.
- 10:00 a.m. The day officially starts downtown, and the vendor market listing at City Hall starts at the same time.
- Late morning into early afternoon. With the car show running all day, you can go home, have lunch and come back without missing anything.
- By 4:00 p.m. The vendor market's listed end time.
- By 5:00 p.m. The car show and the City's listed event window end.
The longer schedule helps families with young kids, people who work Saturday mornings and anyone who has always caught the parade and then gone home. Earlier formats were built around a single 10:00 a.m. start, and now there's room to arrive later.
The Week After, Fort Knox Changes Its Gates
Irwin called the Vine Grove parade "a kickoff to the Veterans Day celebrations." For households that go through Fort Knox's gates every day, Veterans Day itself falls on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, and the post is changing its gate schedule around it. On October 15, 2026, Fort Knox posted gate operations for the Veterans Day and training holiday on DVIDS:
- Wilson Gate: closed Tuesday, November 10, and Wednesday, November 11.
- Brandenburg Gate: closed Wednesday, November 11.
- Chaffee Gate: open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Chaffee Avenue on-ramps to US 31W: open 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week.
- Fort Knox Visitor Center: open 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week.
Vine Grove commuters who normally use Wilson Gate will need another route on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyone coming from the Brandenburg side loses that gate on Wednesday. Chaffee Gate is the one entrance that stays open around the clock.
So the season starts on West Main Street on Saturday, November 7, and the following Tuesday and Wednesday it shows up again in the gate schedule. Put November 7 on the fridge calendar for the parade at 10:00 a.m. and the car show until 5:00 p.m. Put November 10 and 11 on it too, so you're ready for the gate closures.
